Beard Trimmer vs Electric Shaver: Which Do I Choose?

A very common question among men is the following: Do i buy an electric shaver or a beard trimmer? What is the difference? Although the answer is quite clear, there seems to be some mixed information out there that is confusing a wave of men, leading to mistaken purchases and ultimate regrets.

We will clear this up, but first, let’s take a closer look at these products:

The Beard Trimmer

This product is self explanatory. It is meant to simply trim and maintain the beard to a proper length of choice and keep the hairs growing evenly and orderly. You can read these beard trimmer reviews to find the ideal one for you.

You can choose from several different types and they may come with their own attachments for increased usability. This includes eyebrow, ear, and nose hair attachments or even a full body shaver that can mimick (albeit limited) an electric shaver. Do your due diligence before choosing, and find the right one for your needs.

Who is this right for?

This product should be your choice if you are simply growing out your beard, keeping it maintained, or rocking a stubble look. An electric shaver will not help you properly groom a beard, so do not even attempt to do that.

The Electric Shaver

The electric shaver is a replacement for the standard razor. If you intend to shave clean, this is where this product comes in. Now, keep in mind that not all electric shavers will provide you with a super close shave, and the few ones that do will be in the $200+ price range, as you can see here.

There are two types of shavers; a foil and a rotary. A foil style shaver has parallel blades and is the one that you would want if you are seeking a close shave. A rotary style shaver has circular blades that move in high RPM’s to provide a not so close shave, but one that can be utilized more often. They are usually more durable because of this.

Most of these shavers also come with attachments that either help you clean the product automatically, or perhaps even a pop-up detailer to assist you in getting those hard to reach areas like around the chin.

As you can see, there is quite a bit to know about these 2 products, and when they are used interchangeably, a lot of confusion can and has occurred. We hope that this clears it up for you, so you can be on your way to better grooming!
